Rent caps - Tenants need to be protected

ANY move to prevent greedy landlords from exploiting tenants is to be welcomed.

Action by Minister for Social and Family Affairs Mary Coughlan would appear to be the correct measure to prevent some landlords from cashing in on rent support given by health boards to those on low incomes.

What has been happening in those cases, is that when the allowances were raised, so were the rents, effectively making the rent limits set by health boards the going rate for the market.
