Government neglect is a scandal

The reason groups representing people with disabilities are insisting that any legislation must be rights-based has been graphically illustrated on RTÉ’s Prime Time.

Government neglect is a scandal

The programme showed the appallingly inadequate services reluctantly provided by a Government intent on squirming out of a commitment which they pledged was a top priority. That was to introduce a Disability Bill which would enshrine the rights of those with disabilities to proper services and resources, so they would not have to depend on the largesse of government.

Having been abandoned before the last General Election because the proposed Bill was totally flawed, the Government is still running away from the issue and refuses to publish another in advance of next month’s local and European elections.
