Stealth tax stokes up local revolt

THE grassroots revolt simmering in Fianna Fail against controversial development levies shows up the Coalition’s measure for what it is - the biggest stealth tax of them all.

So raw is the opposition to Environment Minister Martin Cullen’s draconian initiative that rumblings are emanating from disaffected councilors in one local authority after another.

As the first signs of opposition were signalled in Kerry Clare, councilors spoke out vociferously against the plan and called for it to be watered down.
