IRA statement - A blatant disregard for democracy

The IRA’s offer to shoot the men allegedly responsible for the murder of Robert McCartney has provoked predictable expressions of shock and disbelief.

Taoiseach Bertie Ahern noted that reading about the offer in the official IRA statement was horrific.

“This is a democratic society and we all want to see the rule of law operate,” Mr Ahern emphasised yesterday.
