Following a doubling of the number of work permits issued to workers outside the EU last year, the employment authority wants a more targeted approach to immigration.

Basically, the Australian system concentrates on filling skills shortages through a points system geared to recruiting workers that the country needs. This makes a lot of sense. Besides matching people with jobs, it would also help to sustain economic growth.
