Mobile ban in cars will save lives
This lethal phenomenon gives added significance to Transport Minister Seamus Brennan’s plan to introduce legislation banning the use of mobile phones in cars before the end of the year. While motorists caught using mobile phones will face penalty points, the ban will not apply to the use of hands-free kits for mobile phones in cars.
By outlawing the use of hand-held mobiles, Mr Brennan will be taking yet another important step towards reducing carnage on the roads. However, it is essential to ensure the law is watertight as the Government has already been forced withdraw similar regulations amid confusion about their operation.
