Sex abuse - Protection must be extended

A disturbing report into sexual abuse of people with intellectual disabilities points to a serious lacuna in the current reporting system relating to suspected cases of adult victims.

It is something which should be addressed as a matter of urgency.

Yet to be published, the report was compiled by four psychologists at St Michael’s House in Dublin and is grounded on figures gathered over the last 15 years. While it relates to the eastern region, the data was projected for the country as an entity.
