Scheme is wide open to abuse

Seven Dáil deputies are earning even more in expenses than their €74,000 salaries.

Most other people in society are expected to economise or minimise their expenses, but our politicians are a different breed. They have no plans to review the system.

In many instances, their expenses bear no relationship to their expenditures.
