Taoiseach may regret city ‘snub’
This explosive issue has taken on a sharp political dimension with supporters preparing to run possibly six candidates in next summer’s local elections. An angry Fine Gael member wants the council to besiege the Taoiseach’s office until he agrees to meet them.
In response to their request for a meeting, Mr Ahern opted to take the easy way out, turning down the invitation because of his heavy schedule during Ireland’s EU presidency. Surely the affairs of Europe would not grind to a halt because Mr Ahern spent a few hours in Cork?
