THE snubbing of Taoiseach Bertie Ahern by relatives of the victims of the Omagh bombing has taken the gloss off his watershed speech on the need for a new era of partnership and equality in the North.

Mr Ahern has only himself to blame for getting the cold shoulder from those who have suffered most in the Co Tyrone town, which experienced one of the North’s worst atrocities.

Ever since the bomb attack five years ago, the families of the 31 victims have been seeking a meeting with him. But sadly, they had no success.
