Sinnott victory - Independents make political system better

Although the configuration of the Dáil is testament to successful independent candidates, the election of Kathy Sinnott yesterday as an MEP adds another dimension to an ever-changing political landscape.

Ms Sinnott is not, of course, a stranger to the electoral challenge, having just failed to take a Dáil seat by a mere handful of votes in the last general election.

Renowned as a disability and family rights campaigner, she has fought for the rights of the family, disabled people, the issue of health provision, and against incinerators and the EU constitution.
