HIGHLY sinister implications stem from the discovery of a device planted beneath a car at the home of a garda in west Dublin yesterday. Thankfully, it turned out to be an elaborate hoax.

While the motives behind this deplorable incident remain unclear, the device was similar in design to a pipe bomb thrown at a house in what is believed to be another chapter in the drugs war raging in the capital. This heightens speculation that subversives are working for drug barons.

The sheer scale of Ireland’s drugs crisis was illustrated as gardaí and customs seized 25 kilos of cocaine, worth around €3.5 million. Apparently, a new gang involving Nigerian and Irish criminals is now operating.
