Frequent travellers will welcome European Union plans to introduce laws to standardise compensation to be paid to people who suffer the inconvenience of having their air flights cancelled, or being bumped, because their flights were oversold.

In many in stances the level of compensation will be doubled.

Faced with a drop in passenger numbers, some airlines sought to save money by canceling flights for purely commercial reasons, without regard to the inconvenience being caused to those who have already purchased tickets.
