Asylum centres - Payments to contractors defy belief

IN a classic Irish solution to an Irish problem, a handful of contractors are earning millions by operating centres for asylum seekers for the State.

Out of 78 properties in the scheme, eight contractors control over half the total capacity of 8,300 asylum seekers in 35 centres.

In a formula that challenges logic, ‘capacity’ is the operative word.
