DESPITE the gloomy news on the jobs front, including the shedding of over 300 manufacturing jobs in Dublin and Cork last Friday, employment has been holding up and has actually grown

And the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) actually grew by 6.3% last year.

What we have been witnessing, therefore, is not an overall decline but a dramatic drop in the rate of growth.
