Racism report - Time to get tough on prejudice

CONSIDERING the sheer scale of the influx of migrant workers to Ireland it is inevitable, though by no means excusable, that racism has increased.

This trend is particularly evident among some in the taxi business and also in “consistent reports” of prejudice and rudeness towards foreign nationals by some garda immigration officers.

In its half-yearly 2005 report, the national watchdog committee records the highest number of racist incidents since 2001.
