Neary fiasco must not happen again

EVERY woman in the country will welcome the High Court verdict giving force to a Medical Council decision to strike the name of consultant obstetrician Dr Michael Neary off its register.

Neary fiasco must not happen again

His monstrous actions at Our Lady’s Hospital in Drogheda resulted in the wombs of 10 patients being removed. The 60 women who have initiated civil legal proceedings against him will applaud the High Court move ordering the Irish Medical Council to publish in full its report on Dr Neary.

The court decision has left Health Minister Micheál Martin with no other choice but to establish an inquiry to discover how doctors, nurses and management failed to notice the high level of caesarian hysterectomies by the consultant obstetrician over a 20-year period.
