Childcare for all — not just for TDs

THERE is broad agreement that providing high-quality early childhood education for all the children of the nation should be a major priority for Government.

Unfortunately, the Coalition has failed abysmally to live up to its promises in this regard. In particular, the administration has been notoriously slow to aid the provision of suitable crèche facilities in the workplace.

Encouraging more women to enter the labour market is laudable. But the failure to match that policy with adequate childcare support has been lamentable.
