Paddy Power Bookmakers have certainly gained from the affair to a degree that could hardly have been envisaged when the deal was made to pay some players €750 per game to carry the company logo on their hurleys.

The bookmaking firm emerged with its dignity intact, its stock prices enhanced, and, for a relative pittance, it got an enormous amount of publicity.
