Labelling of food is the way forward

THE assertion by Dutch poultry producers that there is nothing wrong with selling Irish consumers chicken which has been injected with beef or pork proteins is highly disturbing.

It underlines the importance of Minister Joe Walsh’s decision to set up a group to examine issues relating to the labelling of food.

The Irish consumer is entitled to know the contents and composition of the foods they buy. In this regard it is imperative that the EU Commissioner with responsibility for food, David Byrne, urgently addresses the issue of food safety and food composition.
