Speeding minister – Government must lead by example

HOW can the Government expect motorists to respect road safety campaigns if Cabinet ministers are speeding around the country?

The blatant hypocrisy of this scenario was graphically illustrated yesterday when junior Justice Minister Frank Fahey admitted his driver had received an on-the-spot fine for exceeding the speed limit in Co Galway last week.

Ironically, it was the week gardaí launched their annual blitz against speeding and drink driving in a bid to reduce the appalling carnage on Ireland’s roads.
