Road safety - Government needs to act on promises

The Irish Insurance Federation (IIF) gave the National Safety Council just €1.2 million last year, which was the same as it has given it since 2001.

And there is no intention of raising that sum this year, even though members are making record profits. Those amounted to €329m last year.

The National Safety Council might be expected to be critical of such parsimony, but instead it agrees with IIF, which has concluded that it could spend its money better elsewhere.
