It is rather perplexing therefore to see that the Government, through the Department of Health, is endeavouring to bring about a situation whereby a loading could be imposed on people who are currently without private insurance but who are, sensibly, considering it as an option.

Seeking EU sanction for such a loading, whereby a person’s age would be a factor in the premium they must pay, would most definitely not be an incentive to people considering private insurance.
