The Court of Criminal Appeal quashed the conviction of Dundalk businessman Colm Murphy for conspiring to cause the Omagh bombing in which 29 people were killed, including a woman pregnant with twins.

The ruling is yet another indictment of the handling of a high-profiled case by the State and the judiciary.

The Special Criminal Court had convicted Murphy in 2002 of lending his mobile phone to those who planted the Omagh bomb, knowing it would be used for moving bombs. He was sentenced to 14 years in jail.
