YEAR after year, the harrowing plight of ageing Irish emigrants down and out in Britain has featured as a recurring Christmas story.

The failure of the Government to implement the proposals of its own task force on emigration speaks volumes. The cynical reality is that because they have no vote in Irish elections, emigrants count for nothing in the eyes of most politicians.
