In The Residence Portlaoise nursing home, 40 allegations of abuse were recorded since December 2023 by the recent RTÉ investigation.

Dignity is a basic human right, not an entitlement. 

Listening to RTÉ reports of late has instilled a fear in people in relation to dignified care in older person residential care settings. In 2006, we had reports of loss of dignity in the Leas Cross Nursing Home report, and here we find ourselves again in 2025 at the same juncture, reports of unsafe practices and loss of dignity.
