When leaders reject science, civilization pays the price
Climate activist Greta Thunberg’s September 23, 2019, 'How Dare You?' speech to the UN channels Galileo’s defiance.
In 1633, Galileo Galilei stood trial before the Roman Inquisition. His crime? Insisting — correctly — that the Earth revolved around the sun. Forced to recant, he supposedly muttered under his breath: "E pur si muove" ("And yet it moves").
We now hail Galileo as a martyr for truth. But today’s leaders dismiss climate scientists with the same arrogance the Church once reserved for heliocentrism. The difference? This time, stubbornness could unravel civilization itself.
