Half a century later, King’s words still ring true

The Rev Martin Luther King fought for many issues throughout his life as a minister and the leader of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, speaking out against various barriers holding back black people, Hispanics, Asian Americans, and Native Americans.

Fifty years after his assassination, some of these barriers have fallen — but others remain. Here is a look at five civil rights issues King addressed in his lifetime and where they stand now:
