Socialists to decide the runner-up of the French presidential election

Hugo Drochon says the French Socialist Party is split on who its presidential candidate should be. And so, they have no hope of winning.

SEVEN candidates are standing in the 2017 French Socialist Party presidential primary — which includes the Socialist Party and a number of smaller pro-government Green parties, formally known as the Popular Alliance — but one could be forgiven for not recognising many of the seven.

And three recognisable names will not be on the ballot this January: François Hollande, Emmanuel Macron, and Jean-Luc Mélenchon.
