Enda and Joan happy to renew their political vows in public

With whispers their marriage of political convenience had hit a rough patch, Enda and Joan decided to publicly renew their vows to each other — and the Tánaiste even wore white for the occasion.

In the face of Sinn Féin branding their union a sham and demanding immediate divorce, the pair put on a dance of unity on the Dáil floor, insisting their unlikely relationship had plenty of life left in it yet.

Looking up at Ms Burton, the Taoiseach could not help but break into a broad, almost quizzical, smile as the political lady in his life remembered how people had branded them a doomed couple when they first got together in July.
