Unused units adds to epilepsy suffering

LAST autumn, work was completed on redeveloping and equipping new epilepsy monitoring units at Beaumont Hospital and at Cork University Hospital.

Unused units adds to epilepsy suffering

These redevelopments are part of the National Epilepsy Clinical Care Programme’s strategy for restructuring and developing epilepsy services in Ireland.

The two-bed unit in Cork is a new unit where none previously existed. The new four-bed unit at Beaumont Hospital was intended to replace the previous two-bed unit, thereby doubling the capacity at the hospital to admit, evaluate, and monitor patients with epilepsy at the hospital.
