A sad indictment of society

Government has to protect young people with disabilities, says Micheál Martin

A sad indictment of society

THE past 12 months have not been good for people with disabilities. It has been a year of cutbacks, fear, anxiety, worry, frustration, and anger. The anger is mainly directed at the Government and those in authority who do not seem to realise the impact of cuts on the ground for people with disabilities. People with disabilities are actually worried about not being able to live independently.

Last August the Government announced it was cutting €10m from the personal assistant budget. Thankfully the Government was forced into a U-turn, but the fact it was even announced is scandalous and shows a lack of understanding.
