The lonesome boatman

Louise Lowe is behind a new play that will see its audience rowed across a lake in county Mayo this weekend, says Pádraic Killeen

The lonesome boatman

IN GREEK myth, Charon was the ferryman who carried the souls of the newly departed across the river Styx.

In Across the Lough, a new site-specific theatre piece taking place on Lough Lannagh in Co Mayo this weekend, it is a character called Ciarán, played by Steve Blount, who will transport the audience from one side of the lake to the other in a rowing boat. As he does so, he will relay to his passengers a dramatic tale of loss and life.
