GET READY FOR PAW-RAS AN UACHTARAIN
The couple are set to adopt a one-year-old Bernese mountain dog called Bruno when they take up their new residence.
Bruno was given up for adoption by a couple from Northern Ireland who have emigrated to South Africa. Unable to bring Bruno with them, the couple gave him to dog breeder and Galway Bay FM broadcaster, Valerie Hughes, who is secretary of the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of Ireland.
In the run-up to the election, Hughes had mentioned the possibility of a dog moving into the Áras in the event of Michael D winning.
Bernese mountain dogs can grow to 70cm and can weigh up to 120 lbs.
Current and potential Taoisigh would be well-advised to have some canine treats in their pocket when visiting the Park. Bruno will be the first official pet in Áras an Uachtarain.
