The Bertie bubble

PITY poor Gay Mitchell. At the weekend, his campaign to be elected President received a serious blow. He was effectively endorsed by Bertie Ahern.

Mitchell had made noises to woo Fianna Fáil voters to his standard, but he must surely now realise he has got more than he bargained for.

Bad enough that Mitchell has been endorsed by one of the most unpopular figures in the country, Ahern also labelled the candidate as a “good friend”.
