There’s a hint, just a hint, of spring in the air. I don’t know about you but over the past weekend I’ve eaten my body weight in chocolate. And I’ve immersed myself in viciously cold water — not just once, but every day.

A few years ago I bought a pool. It’s 12 feet in diameter and just over three feet deep and it stands in what is otherwise a tiny back garden that my talented wife has filled with shrubbery. The pool came with a pump and filters and all sorts to keep the water clean. It took about two days to fill with a garden hose, and it keeps topped up by rain. Up to the start of this past winter I immersed myself in it every day.
