HILARY CLINTON, the putative Democratic candidate in November’s ’s White House race will be relieved that the FBI has recommended that no criminal charges be brought against her over her use of a private email server while she served as US secretary of state from 2009 to 2013.

FBI director James Comey said there was not enough evidence to bring criminal charges. However, Mr Comey described the use of a private email server by Mrs Clinton and her staff to deal with highly secret data as “extremely careless” though not an attempt to mishandle classified information. Irrespective of the FBI’s view it is certain that this issue will be a feature of the presidential campaign — as will Mrs Clinton’s overall credibility.

America’s Republican party has been widely criticised for not having prepared a candidate who might successfully oppose Donal Trump and the Democrats may yet regret not having a candidate whose integrity is beyond question. This less than ideal situation is reflected in the implosion in British politics, another situation that must worry democrats.
