Legitimacy of the Rising

Former Fianna Fáil attorney general Paul Gallagher argues that the leaders of the 1916 Rising “had no legitimacy whatsoever” and “were a self-absorbed group of brave idealists.

As far as I am aware, no rebellion in the history of the world had a mandate and I am also fairly sure the British state had no mandate for their rule in Ireland either.

Paul Gallagher needs to remember that he would not have had his esteemed position was it not for those brave men and women who gave their lives in the 1916 Rising.
