Swallows link Ireland to South Africa

Dick Warner’s column, (Swallows en route to spring, 28 March 2016) was a delightful read.
Swallows link Ireland to South Africa

I was charmed to receive the clipping from one of your readers, Pat (regrettably no second name given) who responded to my letter of good wishes on the 1916 Rising. Warner’s column identifies the site at which the barn swallows winter in KwaZulu Natal. That place is barely 20km from my home.

We were there a fortnight ago mindful that they were trekking back to Europe.

What a happy co-incidence that Ireland and South Africa can share this enduring natural link.
