Difficulty disconnecting with eir’s infinite loop

I write to share an experience with your readers of dealing with “eir”.
Difficulty disconnecting with eir’s infinite loop

An elderly couple asked our help to get their phone line disconnected because of the large bills. It began with several attempts to speak to a human on their 1901 helpline. Eventually after several aborted attempts we were told that to get disconnected, all we had to do was to email them. This we did promptly, furnishing relevant details.

Days later they responded by mail advising us that they were processing our mail so the clock was still running on the next bill. Two days after that they e-mailed again saying that we had to use their 1901 number to get disconnected and they couldn’t help us further. Our dealings with them were an infinite loop and the delay brought in more money for “eir” and fleeced the helpless customers trying to disconnect.
