Let’s regulate election postering and make it fairer for everyone

Our streets are covered with election posters, and nobody is happy about it, least of all independent candidates.
Let’s regulate election postering and make it fairer for everyone

As a candidate I have had to spend several thousand euro on posters and volunteers have put in long hours hanging them up, and we will have to take them all down again. It is time, money and energy that should be put to better use. Our electoral process favours political party candidates, they received nearly €70 million in state funding since 2011— independent candidates are forced to compete with this.

The injustice became clear when I realised that not only do I pay for my own posters, but I also pay for those of party candidates. I think it is time to regulate this matter, in the public interest.
