It’s sad that we can’t tolerate dry Good Friday

We are now being advised that pubs should be opened on Good Friday to help tourism and because people want to watch sport in the social atmosphere of a pub.

Every year they come along with another excuse.

Now Minister for Health Mr Varadkar has said he will not oppose such legislation, he is essentially championing their cause (Irish Examiner, January 18).

Is it any wonder we are regarded as a country of drunkards?

Even with an extra day in this leap year they are still not satisfied.

Is it such a sacrifice to have only two closed days from alcohol in a whole year?

The fact that such change in the law would more than likely bring about another unfortunate losing their life on our roads does not seem to cross their minds.

Thank you Mr. Varadkar, you are a great example as Minister for Health.

Have we not lost enough lives to alcohol?

Is three lives lost to alcohol each day not enough?
