Farmers must see new reality

In the coming months we will hear the complaints of farmers whose lands and livelihoods have been devastated by the flooding of recent weeks.

While these farmers should receive as much help as possible, we should also remember that through the years, the IFA consistently used its clout to oppose and delay legislation to tackle climate change.

While we now have belated and inadequate climate change legislation, it is noteworthy that Enda Kenny still found it necessary to ‘cowtow’ to the farming lobby in his embarrassing display of double-speak at the Paris climate change conference.
