Tony O’Brien’s salary comes with responsibility

Tony O'Brien questioned why the State contests long-running medical negligence cases that delay compensation — especially as it loses near all of them.

Your editorial (December 18) affords the HSE chief executive a handy avoidance card on his spot of ‘wondering-out-loud’ to the Oíreachtas Health Committee. Surely Tony O’Brien is being disingenuous when he a washes his hands in public?

What does he get his big salary for?

Isn’t it precisely those type of policy options and operational philosophies that he is to oversee?
