The librarian is as important as the post office master in cities
This system might be ideal in the central library where there is no resident community but it is a step backwards in the suburbs.
The library has become one of the focal points in the community.
The librarian organises Irish language and book discussion groups, gramophone, knitting and art classes and local exhibitions. It’s mainly older people who frequent the library on a daily basis and who develop a rapport with the librarian.
