On 30 January 1972 soldiers of the 1st Battalion, Parachute Regiment, British army, shot dead 14 unarmed civilians. Twelve others were wounded.
Low rank arrest in relation to Bloody Sunday killings

Over 43 years later, on November 10, 2015, one of the soldiers involved, known as Lance Corporal J, was arrested by detectives from the PSNI and questioned about his involvement in these killings.

He has since been released on bail. The rank of lance corporal is the lowest military rank, just one step above that of private soldier.
