With regard to your “From the Archive” piece of October 24 outlining the movement of British troops to Kenya in 1952, I think it would be remiss of us if we didn’t present a balanced view of British involvement in Kenya at that time.

For that reason I would add this: Some historians have argued the British forces were responsible for the deaths of 100,000 people — 1,000 of which were hanged.

The British also interned the million population of Kikuyu, the colony’s largest ethnic group, in barbed wire forced labour reserves where famine and disease were rampant.
