Israel will do anything to demonise Palestinians

In his response to my letter on the context of what is happening in Palestine, Dermot Meleady, information officer of the Israeli Embassy in Dublin, (Letters, October 26) has produced a piece of historical revisionism worthy of Netanyahu and completely missed the point.
Israel will do anything to demonise Palestinians

The fact is that Israel is carrying out ethnic cleansing in Jerusalem now and, in a recent Cabinet meeting, Netanyahu proposed revoking the residency rights of 80,000 Jerusalemites, needless to say these are Palestinian residents. He also stated on Monday that although he doesn’t want a binational state, that “at this time, we need to control all of the territory for the foreseeable future”. Such a statement completely rebuts the fallacy that it is the Palestinians who don’t want peace, it is the Israeli Prime Minister who is proposing endless occupation. Following on from his shameful, ahistorical attempts to minimise Hitler’s role in the mass murder of millions of Jewish people by blaming the Holocaust on the Palestinians, the lengths he will go to to incite against and demonise the Palestinian people are limitless.

Twenty plus years of negotiations and a failed peace process have seen hundreds of thousands of settlers illegally housed in the West Bank, the apartheid Wall, the siege of Gaza, thousands of home demolitions and more than 7,000 Palestinians murdered — more than 2,000 of them children — with thousands more languishing in prison. Despite the spin, the facts speak for themselves.
