What fines for the State’s disregard of the law?

Victoria White in her article (Irish Examiner, September 24) wrongly lays blame at “the interpretation of the Official Languages Act” when it is glaringly obvious to all concerned that had bilingual results been issued, as is mandated by law, this issue could have been averted.

White forgets that laws are to be followed not only by the lowly citizen but also by the State. She should be asking what the repercussions will be for not implementing the Official Languages Act, will there be a fine imposed, what about community service etc?

The law itself isn’t to blame but rather the lack of implementation by the State, an altogether too familiar problem for us Irish-speakers.
