Learn from past and hold this Taoiseach and opposition to account

Despite statements to the contrary by government spokespersons, criticism of the Taoiseach over the Fennelly report is appropriate.

Learn from past and hold this Taoiseach and opposition to account

He is the most powerful politician in this democratic republic and should be held to account.

That needs to be emphasised even more when we remember that failure to hold previous taoisigh to account on important issues ended with this country being bankrupt and needing to be bailed out.

The same democratic principles apply to the opposition as they are not above criticism.

The leader of the opposition was in power for many years when some of the problems in the gardaí, of which he is now complaining, were ongoing.

Nothing was done about them.

Sinn Féin’s criticism should also be put in perspective.

In former times, their colleagues killed both gardaí and democratically elected politicians.
